Say Hello Flawless to Benefit's new liquid foundation...

Last night I was propelled 24 floor flights into the sky to attend the launch of Benefit Cosmetics’s new liquid foundation – Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow. The venue at Rhodes 24 could not have been more apt, with unrivalled panoramic views of London under the starry night, with the image of a Benebabe launching off on her foundation rocket next to the full length window. I was particularly excited about this event for a few reasons. Firstly it was to celebrate a new foundation and I am one person who loves their foundation, completely dedicated in finding the next best, can’t-live-without-it product. The fact it was Benefit as well was also really thrilling – a brand that before now have never brought out a liquid foundation range. I remember using their iconic silver-tube Play Stick when I was younger, a silky smooth creme to powder foundation, which in hindsight was really just a heavy-duty concealer. I may scoff, but yet one still loiters in the bottom of my makeup bag for those emergency touch-ups. It is hard to believe that a makeup brand has not only survived but flourished so far without its own range of liquid foundations, so I was intrigued to see what they had to say about their first venture into this competitive territory. You can always rely on Benefit to come up with catching, punchy product names and their new foundation, Hello Flawless, does not disappoint.Whilst Jasmine (Digital Manger) and Lisa (Head Makeup and Trend Artist) took us on a starry adventure on how the foundation evolved from concept to counter, we were enticed by lavishing laden trays of sugary delights. It appears the one thing that distracts beauty bloggers away from makeup is food, in particular, mini cupcakes and chocolate puddings. Oh my!

Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow has been a three year project for Benefit to fulfil a hefty wish list and make their first presence on the liquid foundation market a WOW experience. The formula is lightweight and oil-free with SPF 25 which gives you a light to medium coverage. As the name Oxygen Wow would suggest, they wanted to make this foundation feel light and fresh on the skin, not too heavy yet completely buildable if necessary. The hydrating complex in the foundation helps boosts cellular respiration implying you skin is able to breathe whilst still achieving a flawless finish. Hello Flawless contains vitamin C and E which can prevent signs of ageing. Their new foundation is targeted as an everyday radiance boosting formula which promotes the appearance of healthy, youthful looking skin. It comes in nine shades, quite a dismal selection in comparison to other high-end brands, which are then divided into three sub categories – light, medium and deep. The fair-skinned ladies amongst you shouldn’t struggle to find your idea shade, but you darker-skinned girls are not blessed with such a wide choice of colours.

Like an excited child at Christmas, I couldn’t wait to use this foundation today. The consistency is a little runnier than any other foundations I’ve used but it smoothed beautifully into the skin, and definitely left me with a natural, dewy finish. I was concerned about the coverage, always being a girl who wavered on the medium to heavy end of the scale, but I felt this foundation served my perfectly. I wouldn’t call it light coverage, decidedly more medium, but I felt completely happy with how it covered and felt on my skin. I was matched perfectly to "I'm so money" (honey) and the new liquid foundations are formulated to work in conjunction with the current Hello Flawless powders so the matching colours compliment each other. I purposefully didn't powder over the foundation today as I wanted to wholly embrace the Oxygen Wow experience and I really liked the look. I usually plump for matte, velvet finishes but Hello Flawless gives you a luminous, dewy finish which, despite being light-medium coverage, did look flawless. Their are still a few factors that I need to assess after a few more uses such as lasting power and how my skin takes to the new foundation, but my first impressions are very positive. I will report back!

Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation will be available from Benefit counters and online from 31st March 2012 and will retail at £24.50 (30ml). Has this new foundation made you go wow?

I'd love to try this out, I think it's really great how it contains Vitamins C & E and I like the idea that it lets skin breathe, but I'd want to get my hands on some samples before I purchase a full-sized one as it is a bit pricey, being Benefit.

Been looking forward to this, I do like the fact that it has more of a "glow" to it as my skin doesn't seem to be working with the matt finish anymore. Not badly priced as well. :) x

Definitely going to have to purchase this despite being on a "spending only on things i really need" budget. But you've really sold this already, I just hope it does have good staying power! Will definitely be looking out for a follow up post to this :)

I managed to get a sample of this in honey from my local counter and i'm excited to try it. I've finished my current foundation today so might use it in the morning. I'm not sure about the shade though, she gave it me cos they'd run out of a lot of the other shades....

I really don't get why brands don't make foundations to match really pale skin tones. Only brand i have seen is Nars Sheer Glow in Sibera. I wish that companys would consider us abit more

Im having a blog sale, MAC, YSL and OPI

I always get excited when benefit launches a new product. There stuff isn't really stuff I get out of necessity but more to treat myself, I think the packaging helps that cause. I'm a bit skeptical as when I think of their tinted moisturizer You Rebel... well it just put me off completely. But I may just give this a try.
