au naturel

earrings - primark
lipstick - mac victorian
curls - all natural baby

It is true that you always want what you haven't got. When I was little, I use to envy my friends with poker straight hair, so tame and shiny, whilst I was stuck with an awkward mane of unruly curls. I went to all costs to rid myself of the curls, avoiding the crusts on my sandwiches for fear they would make my hair grow even curlier and attempting to suppress my ringlets under a sea of kirby grips and scrunchies. Needless to say, the discovery of hair straighteners in my early teens was the start of a spiral of endless straightening and reliance on my trusty GHDs. It is sad but it isn't until recently I have started to embrace my natural waves and accept I am never going to have super straight hair.
It is now my pledge to wean myself off the straighteners and wear my hair au naturel. I am off to Egypt next week so this will be the perfect time to start. I certainly do not fancy singeing my hair whilst I fry in 40 degree heat! To enhance and define my curls I use Trevor Sorbie's beautiful curl cream on wet hair. It is really good and doesn't leave your hair crunchy or sticky, just bouncy and moisturised. I gently twist random sections of my hair and then let it all dry naturally. And that is all, no mousse or hair spray. Now my hair literally takes half the time to style as i use to; as I previously slaved over the straighteners for a good hour. Madness!
My hair certainly feels a lot healthier and happier and I have surprisingly become quite captivated by my curls.

Wow, they're your natural curls? They look fab! I've been going au naturelle too, I just can't be bothered faffing around with straighteners every morning. My ghds have been resigned to the cupboard for ages now! xx

Wow it looks gorgeous Millie! I've given up straightening my hair recently too and have embraced au naturel xxx

I got my hair permed to make them look like yours! :P You look so glowy, what are you wearing on the rest of your face?

Your hair really is gorgeous! I'm another one giving the GHDs a bit of a break at the moment, my hair seems to appreciate it...

I am the reverse of you, I ate all my crusts in a vain attempt to have to curly hair just like my mum and was still given dead straight hair. I love your curl, so natural and beautiful! Mel xxx

amazing Milly, you look gorgeous.
Your hair is amazing.
I DID have naturally curly hair, it has got less & less through the years of straightening and my ringlets aren't any more. Since bleaching it last year (colour SOS!) It has lost the curl altogether, which makes me super sad.
I don't believe we've never (I don't think) seen your natural hair before.
It is beautiful xx

Your curls are gorgeous... I'm the exact same as you though, always wanted straight hair and then straightened it religiously, but now I do embrace the wave now and again lol!

Your hair is lovely natural! I'm the complete opposite, I think straight hair looks awful on me and I make my self wash it every two days just because on day one I always have natural, wavy and big hair. I use curlers to create waves too!

Aw your girls look amazing.
I'm like you in that I have naturally curly hair but am a chronic straightener. I really cant bring myself to love my natural curls even though I'll happily create waves/curls with a hot iron - crazy I know. x

You look absolutely gorgeous!
I am exactly the same as you.. have the thickest of thick hair, and even now avoid the crusts (weird right?!) and even went to lengths of permanent straightening!
But sometimes (depending how the curls go) i tend to leave mine natural.. best way! the curls are lovelyyy!
It makes me want to leave mine natural more.. although the volume is so immense i probably could sweep floors!
But however, you look lovely as always!

We basically have the same hair and I'm just beginning to embrace the curl again too, It's so much easier than frying my poor ringlets :) xx

ah girls thank you all for your nice comments, you have given me the confidence to wear my hair like this more. It is quite a mane and I have always felt conscious of it, but i've now realised...its not so bad!
Pleased to hear many of you are also putting down the straighteners and going au naturel. :)

your curls are fab!! I used to always leave my hair au naturel when it was longer because the weight of it made the curls look beachy rather than random spirals lol i may follow your footsteps when mine grows a bit more!!

You have gorgeous natural hair! I'm so jealous - my hair is naturally horrible! It is pretty straight but tends to flick out unattractively on my shoulders, it's just terrible! You look beautiful in the photos xxx

Hi Milly :-) my hair is too naturally curly and I used to work against them rather than embracing them. You do always want what you don't have! Where did you decide to stay in Egypt then? Angela x
